The Environment
As computers and other electronic devices fast become "throw away
items", many people have concerns about the large numbers of chemicals
and toxic materials that are present in the modern PC and will finish
their life in landfill sites leaching their waste products into the earth.
Although each PC has minimal amounts of toxic materials inside, due to
the vast number of PC's being disposed of, they do have a real impact
on the environment. Many third world countries, who's governments allow
the rest of the world to dispose of their waste on their territories,
are already converting vast swathes of their countries into wasteland.

Here at "The Computer Doctors"
we take our responsibilities, seriously. As our costs, in safely disposing
of an average home PC, amount to around £50.00 per unit including
transport and handling, we are unable to offer a free service to customers
that have purchased a PC from us or have failed to collect their PC after
a repair quote proved uneconomic.
It is now the responsibility of the equipment manufacturer to dispose
of unwanted electronic equipment, therefore if you have unwanted equipment
to dispose of please contact the manufacturer as they should have recycling
facilities already in place. For more information click HERE.
Viper Europe, the manufacturers of
the PC towers that we supply have put in place facilities for us to arrange
disposal of any unwanted Viper equipment at no cost to the customer.
We can collect any other make of PC
from any address within our
area for a total cost of £50.00 including vat. This represents
an "at cost" offer and will ensure that your old PC is disposed
of in an environmentally friendly manner.
Please ensure that any personal data that you do not want in the public
domain, is removed from your PC's hard drive. Our technical support can
explain how to do this, (0905 121 1097, 09.30 - 16.30 Mon - Fri) or our
workshop can carry out this operation for a small extra charge.
What Is ROHS?
The RoHS Directive stands for "the restriction of the use of certain
hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment". This
Directive bans the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic
equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury,
hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated
diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.
Although it is still early days we try to ensure that all sourced parts
and equipment are compliant. We care about the world we are leaving for
our children and feel that manufacturers, suppliers and the general public
must take responsibility for their actions regarding our environment.
